General information about the special collections of the University of Turku Library
- The special collections were made mostly during the 20th century.
- Most of the materials have been received as donations (private individuals, organizations).
- Some of the materials are printed and some are handwritten.
- Different material types: books, reports, decisions, manuscripts, correspondences, notes, photographs.
- Some of the collections are owned by the library, some are collections deposited in the library by faculties.
- The collections are divided under three separate headings: archival material, the ex libris collection, and book collections.
- The different library units also hold their discipline-specific special collections, which are not included in this guide.
- Some of the special collections form complete collections, while some still accumulate. Completed collections include, for example, private archives and collections donated by private individuals.
- The accumulating collections are s.FeKa (Fenno-Kareliana), which contains books, magazines and newspapers in Finnish, Russian and Finnish-related languages. The accumulating collections also include incunabula and s.Amer. (the collection on Finnish Americans).
