Research funders and open science

Open science requirements of research funders

Research funders are committed to promoting open science and research. The Plan S initiative, which promotes open publishing, has been signed by, among others, the Research Council of Finland and the European Commission. Research funding often includes conditions for open publishing and openness of research outputs.

These pages provide instructions for meeting the requirements of the Research Council of Finland, Horizon Europe, and the European Research Council regarding open publishing and data management. Always check the up-to-date guidelines on the funder's own website and in the funding agreement.

You can request help interpreting the guidelines at openutu@utu.fi.
For assistance with funding applications, please contact the university's Research Services (link goes to the intranet/page not published).
