Instructions for creating a data management plan for the Research Council of Finland

A researcher who has received a positive funding decision from the Research Council of Finland must submit a data management plan (DMP) within 8 weeks of the funding decision. The DMP must be submitted before the funding can be accepted.

Upon receiving notification of a positive funding decision::

  • Write the data management plan. The Research Council recommends using the DMPTuuli online tool for creating the plan. The plan consists of six sections; answer their questions briefly and precisely – the data management plan should be no more than about three pages long. Address only data management issues, avoiding overlap with the research plan. Detailed guide for creating the data management plan according to the Research Council of Finland’s guidelines, see the guide: Research Council of Finland: DMP.
  • Send your plan for review to the university's research services at openutu@utu.fi within two (2) weeks of receiving the positive funding decision.
  • Write the final version after receiving comments from the research services.
  • When the plan is ready
    • Submit it to the controller team at controller@utu.fi and
    • upload it to the Council's SARA system. The Head of Department will approve the plan in SARA. This must be done within 8 weeks of the Council's funding decision.
    • Send a copy of the finalized plan also to openutu@utu.fi.

Refer to the guidelines on the Research Council of Finland's page for Data Management Plan, Section B: After a Positive Funding Decision, and the guide Research Council of Finland: DMP.
