Databases offer various options/filters for refining your search.
Most common filters to refine your search:
- Date: Publishing year. Often it is also possible to sort results by date from most recent to oldest, or vice versa.
- Language: Filter results by languages that you know. Often article abstracts are available in English, regardless of the language of the article.
- Publication type: journal article, book article, book, systematic review etc.
- IN ADDITION, some databases offer filters to refine the search e.g. by country, subject, age or gender. Use these with caution because they may filter out search results that do not contain this information. NOTE: Full text filters may not function as expected, because most databases cannot find all full text journals the university has access to.
