Accessibility Statement: The utuguides.fi-website of Turku University

The University of Turku is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Web Accessibility Directive of the European Parliament and Council. In Finland, the Web Accessibility Directive is implemented by the act on offering digital services

This accessibility statement applies to the utuguides.fi website and its subpages, which have been created using the LibGuides content management framework.

State of the accessibility of the website

The service is partially compliant with the  Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content:

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

  • The website includes PDF documents which have been created as images, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails the WCAG 2.1 criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value). We intend to make these documents accessible by 31st December 2020.
  • Not all the video guides on the site include captions, nor are there any media alternatives available. This fails the WCAG 2.1 criterion 1.2.2 (Captions (Prerecorded)). We intend to produce captions for all our videos by 31st December 2020.

This statement was prepared on 18th September 2020. The accessibility of this service has been evaluated by Turku University Library and The Educational Affairs unit. We tested the site manually and also checked it comprehensively with the aid of the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool. We further tested portions of the site with the NVDA screen reader.
