Publishing a Doctoral Dissertation

Publishing a Dissertation in Printed Form

Most dissertations are published in the Annales Universitatis Turkuensis series. However, it is also possible to publish a dissertation in some other series, such as a departmental series, as a publication of a scientific society, with a commercial publisher or as a single monograph. The editor of the series or the publisher takes care of the series number, ISBN, etc.

If you publish your dissertation as a self-published publication, you can request an ISBN from the library:

If you are going to publish your dissertation also in electronic form, see also the instructions for publishing in electronic form

Distribution of the printed copies

If you publish your thesis in printed form (or both in printed and electronic form), please remember to take care of the distribution of the printed copies according to the Guidelines for Dissertation Defence. You have to submit 2 copies to the Feeniks Library's customer service. The copies given to the library should include the loose leaf. The Feeniks Library is located on the university hill (formerly called the main library). NB! If you have asked the printing company to send the required copies to the library, you do not need to bring us any extra copies. Please note that the printing companies do not send copies to the library automatically, but you can ask them to do so.

During the COVID-19 pandemic: If your thesis is only published in print format, you should also deliver the copies to be distributed to the public (20 copies) to the Feeniks Library.
